Six Times Harder

God spoke to Joshua and told him to circle the city one time each day for 6 days and on the 7th day, circle it 7 times! I’m sure Joshua was excited, as this was something that seemed more than achievable. “One time for 6 days? No sweat?” This was not only possible, but doable as Joshua rallied the army to circle for 6 days. I wonder after circling for 6 days once a day if Joshua ever thought to himself that the 7th day would be 6 times harder, six times the effort, and six times more strenuous?

Have You Ever Drifted?

This past summer I visited an old friend who lived in a beautiful house on the lake. After a great time of eating crabs and catching up, we headed out back to enjoy the incredible scenery of his backyard. As he was showing me around while walking on the pier I noticed in the distance there a was something out in the middle of the lake that looked like an empty canoe.

My MLK Breakfast Speech

I had the privilege of being the Keynote Speaker for the Dr. Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast that held at Anne Arundel Community College on January 21.

Here is an excerpt from my speech. You can download and read the full speech here.

When I was a little boy I would sneak into my dad’s closet when he wasn’t at home, and do my best to imitate him. I would put his shirt on. I would pull down one of his ties off of his tie hanger, and to complete the look I’d find his best pair of shoes in the closet and slip my little feet into his shoes. I’d then try to deepen my voice and mimic him as if to say: this shirt may be big on me now, this tie may drag along the floor, and these shoes may be to big to fill now, but ‘one day’ all of this will fit me just fine. As I look back on those days playing in dads closet and playing on my dad’s basketball team I realize that’s it’s no longer the first quarter, It’s now the 4th quarter!

I represent a generation of people who are not only ready to take the big shot, but are ready to fill the shoes of dreamers!

People we have big shoes to fill and big shots to take. It’s the 4th Quarter so play like a team, move the ball around, don’t waste any opportunities, and lastly keep on dreaming! Who will dare to be a difference maker or a game changer?

LIVING LIFE ON PURPOSE

There is a question that I hear very frequently whether it’s walking through the mall, spending time with friends, sitting near another table at a restaurant, or even talking to my children. Most people are walking around wondering what was I created to do? Is what I do on my job to put food on the table my purpose? Is what I do at church my purpose? Is my purpose wrapped up in the tasks of being a parent or a spouse? What in the world am I on this earth to accomplish?
